Primary PE & Sports Premium
What is the Primary PE and Sport Premium?
The Government is providing additional funding for schools to improve provision of physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools.
How should schools use the funding?
Schools must use the funding to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of P.E. and sport they offer. This means that schools should use the premium to:
develop or add to the P.E. and sport activities that their school already offers
build capacity and capability within the school to ensure that improvements made now will benefit pupils joining the school in future years
There are 5 key indicators that schools should expect to see improvement across:
the engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity, kick-starting healthy, active lifestyles
the profile of P.E. and sport is raised across the school as a tool for whole-school improvement
increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching P.E. and sport
broader experience of a range of sports and activities offered to all pupils
increased participation in competitive sport
Statement of Intent
It is our intent that all pupils leaving Yardley Primary School are physically literate and have the knowledge, skills and motivation necessary to equip them for a healthy, active lifestyle and lifelong participation in physical activity and sport. To achieve this, we have set up a plan for PE and sport in our school, incorporating the Primary PE and Sports Premium funding.
The professional development our staff receive with have a lasting impact on their teaching of P.E. As a school we will be able to continue to deliver high quality P.E. lessons after the funding has ended due to the upskilling of our staff. The continuing elevation of the profile of P.E. and sport in school ensures that it will always be given a high priority and will play a key part in helping our pupils achieve healthy lifestyles. Competitive sport continues to establish itself as a key element within P.E. and sport in our school, with it now taking place within curriculum lessons and regularly outside of school. The relationships built with other schools and agencies through this are now able to continue after the funding has ended.
