Keeping Children Safe Near Railways

11th March 2024  |  Posted by Yardley Primary School

Due to recent incidents of trespass on railways in our local area, Network Rail and Learn Live have asked us to share these free safety videos that you can share with your children at home.  Over 20 million students, parents and teachers from across the UK have already watched these videos which has led to a significant decrease in the number of fatalities and injuries in their area through watching the safety videos.

There are two videos available, depending on the age of your child.  Use the links below to access the videos.

👉 Ages 4 - 7  (Reception/Year 1-2 )

👉 Ages 8 - 11  (Year 3-6)

Please note these are the recommended age ranges, you are advised to view the videos first to gauge suitability for your child.

Thank you for helping us raise awareness of rail safety in our community.

Safer Sleep Week is The Lullaby Trust’s national awareness campaign targeting anyone looking after a young baby. It aims to raise awareness of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) and the simple advice that reduces the risk of it occurring. Greater awareness of safer sleep leads to a decrease in the numbers of babies dying.

Sadly around 3 babies a week still die from SIDS and if all parents were aware of safer sleep advice many lives could be saved. Around 700,000 babies are born every year in the UK and The Lullaby Trust need to continue to reach out to all new parents with their life-saving messages.

Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete - School open as usual

4th September 2023  |  Posted by Yardley Primary School

You may have seen recent media coverage regarding Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC) and its use in educational settings. RAAC is a lightweight form of concrete; because it is weaker than regular concrete, concerns have been raised about its long-term durability. The Department for Education (DfE) has recently changed its guidance to education settings on the management of RAAC to take a more precautionary approach and as a result areas in affected spaces will be vacated.

We wanted to inform you that we are NOT affected by this decision as we do not have RAAC in any of our buildings and therefore they will continue to function as normal. School WILL be open as planned on Wednesday 6th September.

We understand that parents may want to understand more about the support to educational settings to manage RAAC safely. You can read more through the article published by the DfE on the Education Hub.

We hope that this offers reassurance and we look forward to welcoming everyone back on Wednesday 6th September.
