As outlined in the Christmas Fayre letter sent to you earlier this month, Friday 25th November is our special ‘Bring a Donation’ non-uniform day organised by Yardley Fundraisers (our PTFA). For Class 3C and Class 3M this day will be on Thursday 24th November.
No money is required for your child to attend in non-school uniform, instead we are asking for donations to support us with the stalls at our Christmas Fayre.
To take part in our special non-uniform day, we require one of the following donations:
A ‘bottle’ to be used in our Bottle Tombola. Alcoholic drinks, non-alcoholic drinks, bottles of pop, bottles of aftershave, bottles of shampoo – if it comes in a bottle then we need it! The only requirements are that the bottle is full/unopened and that it will be able to fit inside a standard bottle gift bag (this doesn’t need to be provided).
Chocolate for our Chocolate Tombola. Any variety, big or small – it it’s made of chocolate, we need it!
Sweets for our Sweets Stall. Again, any variety, big or small – if they are sweets of any kind we need them!
Donations should be brought in to school on the non-uniform day and given to the class teacher. There will be boxes in each classroom to place the donations in.

We have spoken to a number of parents this week about dogs. We have always tried to be accommodating with regards to small dogs that people carry as they are not walking across the playground, which as you are aware, is not allowed.
Unfortunately, due to some inappropriate behaviours, we now need to enforce a complete ban on any dogs entering the playground during drop off and pick up; even those that are carried. We have added extra signage to school entrances to remind people.
Please ensure you stay outside the school grounds with your dogs. Should you need help with your child entering the building due to having your dog with you, please find a member of staff at the school gate and we will support you.
Thank you in advance for your support and understanding.

As you know, the timings of the school day were under consultation in preparation for changes from September 2022. This was in response to the Department of Education’s expectation that all schools will deliver a school week of at least 32.5 hours. This consultation has now ended and the morning ‘dropping off’ and after school ‘collection’ times have been updated.
There are is also a change to the procedure around what happens if you bring your child in late to school in the morning.
A letter outlining all of these changes has been emailed to parents. You can also view it here.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all parents who contributed to the consultation.

We would like to inform you of our plans for P.E. kit for the next academic year, starting in September 2022.
Currently, pupils come to school in their P.E. kit on the days that they have P.E.. This will continue for Years 1-6. Pupils joining us in Reception, will bring P.E. kit with them and change in school for the autumn term.
However, what pupils need to wear for P.E. has been slightly revised. This will make sure costs are kept to a minimum for parents and ensure that pupils feel part of the school community, even on P.E. days. P.E. kit will be monitored by class teachers from September 2022.
Please see our current P.E. kit guidelines and the new ones below, which will come into effect from September 2022. You can also find out more about P.E. kit and uniform on our Uniform & Equipment page here.
We thank you in advance for your support with this matter.

As per guidance from Birmingham City Council, due to the amber weather warning for extreme heat, schools have been advised to take every precaution to keep pupils out of the heat between 11am-3pm on Monday and Tuesday. Therefore, all social time will be taken indoors and PE and forest school will not go ahead. We will make sure that school is well ventilated in order to keep the temperature down.
It is still vitally important that you ensure your child(ren) attend school with a sun hat (clearly labelled with their name), a water bottle (also named) and all-day sun cream applied ready for their day ahead.
We have also been asked about clothing on Monday and Tuesday. As long as pupils have sensible footwear, they can wear clothing to keep cool. We don’t expect uniform on Monday 18th/Tuesday 19th July.

The Department of Education have introduced the expectation that all schools will deliver a school week of at least 32.5 hours. Yardley Primary School is open to pupils from 8.45am, fulfilling this expectation, but formal curriculum learning time begins at 8.55am.
We have two possible ways of adapting the school day:
To remain with 8.55am being the start of formal curriculum learning and finish curriculum learning at 3.25pm each day, for all pupils. Therefore requesting parents to pick their children up from school at 3.25pm each day.
To start formal curriculum learning at 8.45am (doors will open at 8.40am each day as they do now) and leave the end of the school day as it is currently. 3.15pm for years Reception, 1 and 2, and 3.20pm for years 3 -6.
Clearly one of these options needs to be taken but we would like to invite you to share your opinions.
Parents/carers have been sent an email containing a link to respond to this consultation. Please check your email and access the link to select your preferred option and share any thoughts you have with us.
If you have not received the email please contact us.
Responses to the consultation must be received by Monday 27th June 2022.

As usual for our last day of each half term, Friday 18th February will be a non-uniform day. Normally for non-uniform days we request a £1 donation for your child to wear non-uniform. The money raised on non-uniform days contributes to ‘school fund’. This is a fund which is used to provide additional resources and activities that our regular school budget isn’t always able to cover.
During the last couple of school years, we have not always requested this donation, unless we have been raising money for a specific charity. This has been due to the challenging circumstances many of our families have faced throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
To continue to support our ‘school fund’ and provide pupils with additional opportunities, we will be once again requesting donations for non-uniform days.
Friday 18th February 2022 will be a non-uniform day; a £1 donation is requested.
However, we are still mindful that for some of our families, circumstances are still challenging. Therefore, we understand if you are unable to make the donation at this time. Pupils are still welcome to participate if this is the case.
Thank you for your continued support.

To mark Safer Internet Day 2022 on Tuesday 8 February, our friends at Parent Zone are hosting a free and interactive 30-minute virtual event for parents – exploring everything you need to know about online gaming.
The interactive event will be led live on YouTube and will explore topics including:
• How do you know if a game is suitable for your child?
• How do you set effective boundaries around gaming?
• What are the signs of excessive gaming – and what should parents do?
They will be answering your questions too! To ask a question, simply log into a YouTube account and fire away. You can also send in your questions in advance to members@parentzone.org.uk
The event runs from 4.30-5.00pm and there’s no need to register – all you need to do to join is click this link: https://youtu.be/s6dz2GoR6uM
We look forward to seeing you there!

On Tuesday 8th February we will be joining schools and youth settings across the UK in celebrating Safer Internet Day 2022. Safer Internet Day is celebrated globally in February each year to promote the safe and positive use of digital technology for children and young people, and to inspire a national conversation about using technology responsibly, respectfully, critically, and creatively.
Using the internet safely and positively is a key message that we promote in school, and celebrating Safer Internet Day is a great opportunity for us to re-emphasise the online safety messages we deliver throughout the year.
Visit our Safer Internet Day page to find out more and to see what we will be up to in school.
